Uchal Festival
Kalashi people celebrate the Uchal Celebration pre-harvest with cheese, maize, and wine during this festival. Kalash valley residents enjoy music and dance to the beat of drums. On several tunes, women dance in a circle. The Kalashi people are unique in that they do not mourn their deaths. Instead of being buried in the grave, their bodies are buried above ground in wooden boxes. The Kalash Valleys are valleys in northern Pakistan’s Chitral District. They are populated by the Kalash people, who have distinct customs and languages from their neighbours, as well as a history of practising a different religion.
There are three major valleys in the area. Mumuret (Bumburet) is the largest and most populous valley, accessible through a road from Ayun in the Kunar Valley. North of Bumburet are the sided valleys of Rumbur and Acholgah. Biriu (Birir), the third valley, is a side valley of the Kunar Valley south of Bumburet.
Chitral Gol National Park is located in Chitral’s picturesque valley. Chitral Gol is a narrow valley with an 18-kilometre-long canyon that widens out into a basin surrounded by high peaks. The Chitral Gol, which runs southward into the Kunar River, is fed by a number of tributaries.
